BEHIND THE SONG fits perfectly into any classroom (ages 14 and up) or library.

 

Students can:

• Read and critique

• Read and discuss with a partner or small group (see sample discussion questions when you click “discuss”)

• Read and “try on” by choosing their favorite song to write about

• Read and compare pieces

• Read and respond (see a list of response and project ideas when you click “respond”)

 

Educators can:

• Select entries as Mentor Text that bring your curriculum requirements to life.

• Read a particular entry aloud and have students respond in their journals and/or discuss in small groups.

• After reading an entry, allow students to listen to the accompanying song and have them compare and contrast the song to the author’s short story interpretation.

• Build and print a class anthology using student’s pieces.
