"The Killers wrote an anthem about being blown away by heartbreak and longing, but the lyrics for “Miss Atomic Bomb” were enigmatic enough that I thought they could hold a much more sinister meaning if twisted just the right way. The key was combining them with another story—a true one—from an article I’d read about Monique Luiz, the little girl who costarred alongside a mushroom cloud in President Lyndon Johnson’s infamous 1964 “Daisy” campaign ad."
